Property Types & Architecture
Described by Charles Dickens as 'the finest place on earth', Chigwell is a wonderful mix of old and new (and somewhere in the middle) sitting harmoniously side by side in this part of Essex's 'golden triangle'. The old village clustered around St Mary's Church and the 17th century 'Ye Olde King’s Head' is home to the area's Georgian houses and weatherboard cottages. In contrast soon after the arrival of what is now the Central Line in 1903, many large detached properties were built, many since modernised and extended to form large mansions. Recent luxury apartment developments have sprung up close to the station, with 1930s properties towards Hainault, together with the Bowls which is a sixties development of spacious flats.

Shopping & Entertainment
The parade of shops close to Chigwell tube station is the hub of the area and is home to the area's many hairdressers and beauty salons ensuring the glamorous residents are well taken care of. There are also boutiques and coffee shops as well as restaurants and a gastropub. Chigwell resident Lord Sugar’s Turkish restaurant, Sheesh, in the nearby Ye Olde King’s Head is a popular spot with residents. To indulge in some serious retail therapy, Westfield shopping centre in Stratford is a 17-minute journey on the Central line.
