A quiet leafy suburb on the borders of Essex and East London, Chingford was historically a rural Essex parish, which gained Urban District status in 1894. The area offers a great range of larger Victorian and Edwardian properties in wide leafy streets to the north and smaller Victorian terraces and mid-war semi-detached properties to the south.

There is a great range of coffee shops, bakeries, boutiques and eateries in Station Road and a number of highly regarded local restaurants serving Chingford's residents well. For those interested in local history and culture there is the Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, originally built for King Henry VIII in 1543, and is a unique example of a surviving timber-framed lodge-house still standing surrounded by its medieval royal hunting forest. It is a recognised Visit England attraction and well worth a visit.

For magnificent views over London, a walk up Pole Hill, which at its highest point is around 91 metres is well worth the effort. Local parks include Ridgeway which boasts petanque, tennis and table tennis, play areas and a putting green, as well as Larkswood which has fine specimens of oak and hornbeam trees. Epping Forest is a natural boundary to the northern side of Chingford and is the destination for many of the area's outdoor activities including walking, running and cycling to horse riding, angling, football and even golf.
