London Design Festival sees the launch of new affordable “box homes” that utilise smaller spaces
Property developers Bert & May have created an innovative solution to the critical issues of space and affordability in London by designing a range of “box houses.”
These are bespoke modular homes that are built in just over three months and installed on site in one day.
This idea is contributing to a growing trend towards pocket-sized and portable living spaces for the capital.
With planning rules being relaxed and building on brownfield sites encouraged by the Government, these houses can help give Londoners the spaces they want.
These ideas are turning the idea of prefabricated homes on their head and are showing that they can be great living spaces whilst making use of brownfield sites.
Planning and engineering giant Arup, Carl Turner Architects and the Building Centre have also come together to design the energy-efficient “smart house.”
This has been constructed from two recycled shipping containers and has voice-activated systems and automatic lights.
