By 2020, London Councils combined aim to deliver over 2,000 additional on-street charging points for London’s residents and car club operators


Landlords with properties close to an electric car charging point could find their properties rent out quicker or even at a slightly higher rent, as demand for charging points is now racing ahead of supply.

At present, there is only one charging station for every 30 vehicles in London, making a property with a nearby charging point a real attraction. The 41% jump in the number of electric vehicles in the UK last year is forecasted to be followed by further large increases. That means the gap between the demand for charging points and their supply will continue to grow.

By 2034 there are expected to be 322 public charging stations per 10,000 low emission cars in the UK.

Stephen Ludlow, Chairman at ludlowthompson, says: “Close proximity to tube stations or Boris Bike bays have long proved popular with renters, so we may see the same with electric charging stations.”

“If you’re a landlord this might not add a lot to the rent, but we expect it to be a feature that will help let a property far quicker.”
