Fast broadband now a must-have for renters during covid

Super-fast broadband has become increasingly important in recent years but even more so during lockdown. A survey carried out amongst student renters shows a majority would not consider renting a property if it didn’t have high-speed broadband. Out of the 1,000 respondents, almost 60% stated that this would be a deal-breaker when it came to choosing a property to rent. 

As lockdown continues and university campuses remain closed, students are now reliant on the internet to be able to continue their studies remotely. 33% of students now spend an extra five hours a day online studying, while 24% spend an additional four to five hours. 

Almost 30% of students mentioned that they’ve had issues joining online lectures and seminars in the past due to a bad broadband connection. 

Currently, the average broadband speed in the UK is 32.2 megabits per second. However, many student flats will need a faster speed, as multiple people will be using the internet at the same time to stream lectures or attend Zoom meetings.
