- Crazy but True Stories
A woman in New York is in trouble with her husband for accidentally selling his first wife’s ashes at a garage sale.
The ceramic turtle jar containing the ashes of Terrence Lewis's first wife was sold to a woman who wanted it to use as a cookie jar.
The large turtle container was quickly snapped up for 58 cents, in spite of the fact that the buyer could not remove the lid.
Mr Lewis's first wife had collected turtles and because the couple's home was full of them Mrs Lewis said that it never occurred to her.
"We have lots of turtles," she told the Elmira Star-Gazette newspaper. "It didn't even register that this was the one (containing the ashes)."
We have lots of turtles.
