Just £12 for a roof over your head

Would you be surprised to hear that's all it costs? Centrepoint is raising awareness of what it's like to sleep rough.
On autumnal evenings it's nice to get home, run yourself a bath, or just snuggle up on the sofa for a long lazy evening in front of the telly.
For many of us, there's something romantic about Autumn - with the slight frost in the morning and a chill in the air as the nights draw in.
However, some Londoners aren't fortunate enough to afford a home of any sort, let alone a warm one, and Autumn signals the beginning of tortuous months ahead. The Centrepoint sleepout on 11th November 2010 aims to raise awareness of this plight for the homeless young people.
Previous sleepout volunteers have found the experience profoundly moving. With public figures also taking part, such as the charity's patron HRH Prince William and DJ Sara Cox, the volunteers are in good company.
It costs Centrepoint £2100 to ensure that each homeless young person moves into a safe place they can call home, and just £12 can sponsor a room for someone that needs one. £15 could buy a kitchen appliance and £250 could buy bedroom furniture such as a bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
ludlowthompson, a leading London estate agency which supports Centrepoint as its chosen charity, is taking part in the sleepout. Six ludlowthompson employees have volunteered to take part in a sponsored sleepout on the 11th November in Spitalfields Market
Stephen Ludlow comments: "We are humbled to take part in the Centrepoint sleepout. It's telling that some staff who took part last year are doing so again this year. Feeling truly cold for one night is enough to make you really think.
The fact there are still a huge number of citizens forced into sleeping rough is shameful. The Centrepoint sleepout is a great initiative for raising awareness of how much difference a small donation can make to a homeless young person's plight. It's tempting to think that homelessness is a choice, but for many young people it just isn't. It's sobering to think that £12 provides a roof over someone's head."
