‘The Oval CookBook’ includes our Chairman’s recipe for Turkey Surprise!
ludlowthompson always seeks ways to reinforce its ties to the local communities it works in and to help newcomers become a part of them.
‘The Oval CookBook’ initiative is one of the new ways ludlowthompson helps people feel welcome in the local community. ludlowthompson buys a copy of the cookbook for anyone moving to the Oval area.
Proceeds from all sales of the cookbook go to the local young person’s adventure playground – The Triangle Adventure Playground. So far, it has raised approximately £1,400 and has helped generate a large amount of publicity.
The cookbook was originally started by Veronica Porter, an Oval resident, who came up with the idea of selling a cookbook and donating the profits to help support The Triangle.
It has recipes from many cultures, with contributions from individuals from different walks of life, but who all live and work in the area. Our Chairman’s own recipe for ‘Turkey Surprise’ is included – although he says readers may find some better ones in the book!
Within the last year, the second edition of the cookbook was launched with even more great new recipes included.
Stephen Ludlow, Chairman at ludlowthompson, says: “The cookbook is a testament to the thriving multicultural community in Oval – one we’re proud to be part of.”
“We saw this as a great way to support the local area whilst also fostering the feeling of community for those moving into the area. Giving back to the communities that we operate in is extremely important to us and a key part of our ethos.”
Vernoica Porter, Editor of ‘The Oval CookBook’, adds: “I have always been impressed in Oval by the way there is so much amazing community work going on in quite unexpected places. Almost everyone I spoke to was involved in one way or another in supporting good causes so I wanted to try and encompass that work in my cookery book.”
“So many good things came out of the first edition, not least £1,500 for the Triangle Adventure Playground, that I agreed to do a second version which has far more photographs (though still not enough!) and some people I wasn’t able to include the first time round. Support from businesses such as ludlowthompson, Max and Melia, Oval Eyes and all those businesses that interact with the local residents association IMPACT has been particularly welcome.”
“The cook book is a testament to the thriving multicultural community in Oval – one we’re proud to be part of.”
