Tell us a bit about yourself, Nicola:
I’m 25 years old and was born and raised in South London. I’d describe myself as career driven, committed and self-motivated with a strong focused work ethic. I’m an explorer, both in my day-to-day thinking and in my love for travel.
Before working for Ludlow Thompson, I worked for a retailer, where I started as a Christmas temp and went on to become a supervisor, and then floor manager. At the age of 20, I felt I had outgrown retail and wanted to try my hand at estate agency and joined ludlowthompson. In the five years since that, I haven’t looked back.
What's changed about the area you grew up in?
South London as whole, has changed immensely and all for the greater good. When I was a young teenager, I used to travel through Vauxhall and Wandsworth Road on the way to my weekly dance practice.
Seeing now over 10 years on, how much the area has progressed into Nine Elms and to see all the new developments, luxury apartments and improved transport links, it really leaves me with a feeling of satisfaction.
Similar can be said for Lewisham, close to where I used to go to school. There’s so many new build developments going up in the heart of the area, that it has completely reshaped the district.
Brixton has also changed a lot, with its many new bars and restaurants in Brixton Village – South London has really come a long way!
What does the future hold for South East London?
There have been discussions about complementing the DLR by extending the Bakerloo line into South East London. In discussions of the terminus – Lewisham and Beckenham Junction were put forward. Should this come to fruition, it will be massive for South East London, as it would become an increasingly desirable place to live and build businesses. Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed!
What do you like about working at ludlowthompson?
ludlowthompson has a genuine interest in staff progression and rewarding staff for high performance. I have been lucky enough to have experienced this first hand. When I started at ludlowthompson, I was a ‘Viewer’, which consists of booking viewings and showing people around properties to buy or rent.
From being a viewer I progressed to be a negotiator, then senior negotiator, which entails tying up my own lets, carrying out market appraisals and dealing with the contractual side of paperwork with both landlords and tenants.
ludlowthompson reward you for your hard work, with prizes, sit down dinners with the company directors and your name up in lights at the monthly presentations. It’s really motivating and makes you feel as though you are valued as a member of staff.
What is your proudest achievement at ludlowthompson?
It has to be winning lettings negotiator of the year, three years running and now being promoted to a lettings manager.
What are your hopes for your career progression?
I hope to become as successful as a lettings manager, as I have been a negotiator. I want to share my knowledge, skills and experience with my team, to help them become the best they can be in their role
We are always happy to recognise our staff and their hard work – we’re very proud of the year that all of them have had
