Working in London’s Tech City? These hotspots offer affordable living close to Silicon Roundabout
Renters know that location matters and so it seems does London's technology sector.
Over 7,000 tech companies are situated around Old Street's Silicon Roundabout making it Britain's most successful tech hub and one of the key reasons for this is its location.
Silicon Roundabout is not just a hotbed for tech companies, Shoreditch is also a lively area for bars and restaurants and is an increasingly popular area to live. However, property prices are far above the earnings of the average programmer. Where are they targeting now?
For those renters that choose to stay longer in the area, there are affordable home hotspots just a few stops down the tube line. Additionally, the new Cycle superhighway set to be completed in early 2016, will link Shoreditch with Dalston, Haggerston, and even Tottenham.
Whilst house prices in Shoreditch, Dalston, and Hackney are out of reach for many young professionals to buy, the area still offers relatively affordable rental property.
Clapton's thriving weekend markets, newcafes, and boutique food stalls also attract young professionals to the area.
In addition, Stratford, like many areas soon to be linked up by the high speed Crossrail will add 11,000 new properties over the next few years. It will become one of the best connected areas in London, and it is expected that renters will continue to flock to the area.
These areas offer affordable living close to the innovative and creative areas of East London. The private rental sector allows renters to maximise their wages by living within commutable distance of employment markets in the most innovative sectors in the UK.
Stephen Ludlow, Chairman of Ludlowthompson comments: “We’ve already seen a surge in property in areas such as Stratford as a result of the Crossrail line development coming in 2018.”
“The lifestyle that East London offers to those working in the technology sector is extremely attractive to young professionals who are renting as they near the key employment markets and have the chance to enjoy living."
