The British Insurance Brokers Association advises tenants to be extra vigilant this Christmas.
BIBA has offered tips to tenants to ensure their possessions will be safe this winter, particularly those in the capital who plan on leaving the city for the holiday season.
It is that time of the year again where various organisations offer their annual warnings about preparing for the winter months ahead. It is easy to get complacent, with visions of a snug Christmas and all the trimmings. However, BIBA in particular warns against getting too caught up in the spirit of things.
Sadly, each Christmas there are homes targeted by burglars. To avoid being greeted on Christmas morning by a giftless tree or returning post-holidays to an empty house, BIBA offers the following advice:
- Ensure that all windows and doors are locked at night.
- Save putting the presents under the tree for Christmas morning - it may look like a welcome sight to you, but this will also be a tempting display for burglars.
- Keep all valuables hidden from view when you go to bed.
- Check your insurance policies are up to date, particularly if you are going away.
This advice comes with the prediction that a record number of smart gadgets will be bought and given as gifts this Christmas.
BIBA are hoping that by taking on board their advice, tenants' 'good will to all men' will extend long into the New Year.
