Beckton has now largely been rebuilt with modern housing, shopping facilities and leisure activities. It also benefits for the extension of the Docklands Light Railway.

Beckton Gasworks which closed in 1969 once dominated this area of East London. The area now mainly hosts housing and several out-of-town shopping centres. Small areas of Victorian housing have survived. However most of Beckton's properties were built post 1980's. The area is part of a big plan to regenerate this area of London with new homes and community facilities.

The area is home to Beckton District Park, a public park with areas of natural woodland, a lake, children's playground,a basketball court and football pitches.
New Beckton Park is a neighbouring small park. It has a grassed area with sports pitches, tennis courts and play area with sand.
