The National Landlords Association has issued guidance on how to recognise the signs of a faulty thermostat.
This move follows the inquest on 10 month old Rhianna Hardie, who died after the hot water tank in the loft burst covering her with boiling water as she slept in the bedroom below.
It was claimed at the inquest that possibly millions of homes across the UK could be at risk from a similar incident, caused by a faulty thermostat.
The NLA has advised its membership of the following tell tale signs to look out for, especially with systems over 10 years old or if poor installation work is suspected:
• Steam or moisture in the roof space
• Hot water coming out of cold taps
• Excessive noise or bubbling from the hot water cylinder
• Boiling water coming out of the hot water taps
