Roof terraces can provide much needed outside space in confined areas and are becoming the new property accessory.
Roof terraces will usually need specialist knowledge and planning permission if you want to create one from scratch, as Tony and Cherie Blair did recently at their London property. Though it is possible to pick up a lot of information from the recent report written by Lord Rogers and Ken Livingstone extolling the virtues of the roof terrace called Living Roofs.
They say: "Roof terraces and roof gardens can deliver benefits for individuals and for society as a whole by creating new outdoor spaces, enhancing bio-diversity, reducing flood risk by absorbing heavy rainfall, providing insulation and improving the appearance of our cityscape."
They continue: "London's most under-used asset is just above our heads."
